The Longwood Adult Ladies team overcame a strong Dunderry side to claim victory in the last game of Division 7 on Friday night. 

The game was an exhibition of football, with stellar performances from both teams.

Longwood raced out of the blocks with an early goal in the first 10 min, with an excellent finish by Millie Rose Russell. This was quickly followed up with 2 magnificent points from Diane McQuaid and Nicole Callaghan.  Dunderry rallied with a slightly fortuitous goal off the cross bar and a brace of points to stay in the game, but Longwoods defence remained resolute, with fine individual performances from the magnificent Laura Maguire and the impervious Miriam Barron.

Dunderry continued to push for a second goal but a fantastic save from Millie Cunningham was to deny Dunderry levelling the scores as they approached half time. 

However Longwood could smell blood and with Millie Rose Russell slaloming through the Dunderry defence and the super nimble Ashling Ennis registering a goal apiece, Longwood lead 3-4 to 1-2 at half time.

Longwood continued as they left off in the second half, with Ciara Shields and Lauren Murray rampaging up and down the flanks, working in tandem with the industrious Grace Bermingham and energetic Gemma Sweeney to create chances for the inside forwards. Dunderry to their credit never gave up and scored 3 unanswered points. A penalty decision gave Dunderry a lifeline however they had to settle for a point as a consolation score.

Longwood remained resolute with fine defending from the half back line of Fiona Brady, Roisin Harvey, Megan "the Rock" Campbell and Ella "the Rash" O'Donnell. Longwood got their second wind and continued to press with chances falling to the excellent Alanna Feerick and Clodagh Gaddren. 

A fine midfield performance was prematurely ended for Erika Peciulyte as she received a nasty bang to the head. However her midfield partner Caragh King ably deputised to ensure that momentum was maintained for Longwood. 

With great link up play by Ella Butler and Abbie Wang, danger woman Millie Rose Russell and the ageless Ashling Ennis ensured the green flag was raised on two further occasions. 

The final whistle signalled large celebrations by players and fans alike, to bring down the curtain on a fine debut league campaign.
