Senior Football League Division 4:  Nobber 2-6 Longwood 0-14

Longwood footballer’s Tuesday evening journey to Nobber proved to be a fruitful one as they edged home by two points in a tight contest.

The game could hardly have started worse for Longwood when Sean Meade won possession and drilled a precise shot to the corner of the net within the opening thirty seconds.  Longwood settled and three successive points brought them level, before another sucker-punch goal restored Nobber’s advantage.

But once again Longwood refused to panic.  Instead they regrouped and proceeded to dominate the scoring stakes for the remainder of the contest.  Despite missing a number of players due to exams, work commitments and injuries, Longwood displayed an impressive air of composure throughout the game.  Their disciplined tackling was a noted strength, in particular a couple of well-timed turnovers from Ben McLoughlin and Adrian Maguire late in the second half when the home team were pressing for an equaliser.

This, combined with some excellent points from Ryan Moore, Harry Hogan, Brian Stagg and Damien Healy enabled the boys to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time in the current season.  Here’s hoping they can keep the run going.

Longwood: Kevin Maguire, Sean Carpenter, Niall Mulvey (Capt), Bob Maguire, Brian Stagg (0-2), Tomás O’Brien, Harry Leigh, Damien Healy (0-2), Sean Sheridan (0-1), Ryan Moore (0-4), Anthony Healy (0-1), Gavin Griffith, Ben McLoughlin, Harry Hogan (0-3), Adrian Maguire (0-1).  Subs: Ciaran Sheridan for Gavin Griffith, Josh Meagher for Ben McLoughlin, Donal Stagg, Ross Healy.

There is no rest for the boys as they host Donaghmore Ashbourne in the final round of the senior hurling league on Friday evening.
