Longwood’s senior hurlers got their league campaign off to a winning start with a comprehensive victory over St Fechin’s on Friday evening.
Credit to the Louth team who made the journey to south Meath minus a number of regular starters and put up a good fight in the opening period.
There was a youthful look to the home team, with the full back line having an average age of just nineteen years. Brian Stagg, Fionn Hannon, Ben McLoughlin and Thomas Dorran all made their senior league debuts and all four of these young lads performed well, showing great industry and an appetite for work throughout the hour.
Longwood eventually asserted their dominance in the second half with midfield powerhouse Sean Coloe particularly prominent. Coloe, who would finish with an impressive nine-point haul, was well supported on the scoreboard by Anthony Healy, Ryan Moore and Kevin Heagney. The goals, when they eventually arrived, were well taken by Quin Fisher and Bob Maguire.
Longwood know there will be stiffer tests ahead but for now they can be satisfied to have two points on the board.
